Chickens Hatch at Hillis

Hillis Elementary has been the cozy home to several baby chicks.  Mrs. Gilbert’s 4th grade class took care of the chicks while they were still eggs.  The students watched the eggs and made sure they were a comfortable temperature.  Once the eggs hatched, the students fed the baby chicks and gave them love and attention.  The chickens have grown exponentially in the past several weeks.  Mrs. Gilbert got them a larger pen and even needed to put a mesh roof on it so they don’t fly out!  The students in Mrs. Gilbert’s class are wonderful care-takers.  They look forward to sharing their room with their new pets and learning first-hand about the life cycle! IMG 2990 IMG 2992 IMG 3044
