The Hillis track team helped to raise money for the Make a Wish Foundation by hosting a hot chocolate run. Participants enjoyed a run around the walking trail and then warmed up with some hot chocolate. Thanks to students, teachers, and the community for helping to make this event a success!
Des Moines Public Schools has announced four new principals starting in the 2015-16 school year, including at Hillis Elementary. Renee Gelfond, the dean of students at Cattell Elementary School, will be joining Hillis as our new principal next July. Click the headline to meet all of the new principals at DMPS.

Des Moines Parks and Recreation and Des Moines Public Schools are partnering to offer a youth basketball league for the 2014-2015 season. The program is for students in grades 1st through 7th. The registration deadline is October 17 and fees are $50 per student or $450 per team. Click the image to learn more and register to play.
Look what our second graders built after one class at Cora’s Cupboard! These delicious veggies are right out of the Hillis garden. They looked so good, we set them out for our parents to see. Students are learning to cook healthy foods at Cora’s — a school kitchen that looks a lot like the one they have at home!
