Kindergarten Sign-Up Begins March 11


The first day of Kindergarten 2015-2016 will be here before you know it! It’s an exciting time for staff and students, but it all starts with registration. Sign-up begins on March 11. Beach Day


Hillis students celebrated the 100th day of school and helped to beat the winter blues by having beach day. Here are students from Mrs. Schoper’s kindergarten classroom posing in their fun clothes!

Hillis Literacy Night


Hillis families enjoyed a night at school to learn more about promoting literacy. There were snacks, book giveaways, and take home ideas for families. Thanks to everyone who came and made this night a success!


Hillis’s Next Principal: Renee Gelfond


Des Moines Public Schools has announced four new principals starting in the 2015-16 school year, including at Hillis Elementary. Renee Gelfond, the dean of students at Cattell Elementary School, will be joining Hillis as our new principal next July. Click the headline to meet all of the new principals at DMPS.

Hot Chocolate Run


The Hillis track team helped to raise money for the Make a Wish Foundation by hosting a hot chocolate run.  Participants enjoyed a run around the walking trail and then warmed up with some hot chocolate.  Thanks to students, teachers, and the community for helping to make this event a success!


Hillis Walkathon


Hillis students raised money for the school and learned about the importance of staying active during the Walkathon.
